Powergrill: "Luni Boy" 7" EP - Grillmaster Records (GMR 003), 2000.

This is the second of two 7" EP releases this year. "Luni Boy" is naturally down the same lane as its predecessor "Cant Slow Down" (GMR 002); hard singalong punk rock 'n' roll with a great twist of irony.

The title track has a horror feel to it with imitated wolf cries, great echoes on the vocals and three powerful chords repeating. I can't help thinking of this song as an ode to the Misfits. "Nudie Bar" is an uptempo song about the joyful nights at the local nudie bar, also with simple and melodic power chords, whereas "Liquor Store" is a straight forward punk rock anthem dealing with being "a lowlife alcoholic". "Mental Ward" is a very strong song with touches of oi! punk, that brilliantly displays Powergrill's ironic approach.

Both 7" EPs are very strong efforts that will hopefully catapult Denmark higher up in the Scandinavian punk rock hierarchy. To get this 7" and "Can't Slow Down" contact the band: powergrill@hotmail.com (JW)

Powergrill: "Can't Slow Down" 7" - Grillmaster Records, 2000.

Finally it's out! This one is the first of two 7" releases by Danish Punk Rock 'n' Rollers, Powergrill. It's been awhile since the previous release that goes three years back - but now Powergrill are ready with a new and improved sound, style and line-up!

All four songs are in-your-face punk rock 'n' roll born to be neo-classics, well carried out with screeching rhtyhm guitars, to the point leads, stompin' drum beats and loud 'insisting' vocals! My personal favourite on this 7" has to be the very melodic "Too Cool for School" (check MP3.com) which brilliantly illustrates where Powergrill come from musically, and where vocalist, Claus, shows that he can also hit the higher notes! The title track beautifully underlines the fact that the band actually have a lead guitar player, the ground guitar riffs sound somewhat power metal inspired, only faster! "Couch Potato" is build up in a classic Powergrill way, that instantly reminded me of some of the earlier material, while "Our Show" is very interesting with the exceptionally slanting 3-chord riff!

For non-nostalgic fans of Ramones, Social Distortion, Misfits, Psychotic Youth, The Hymans, Turbo A.C.'s, The Bones and perhaps even Die Toten Hosen, this 7" has to be a sure hit! (JW)
